Supported Independent Living (SIL) in Sydney
Personalised daily support and experienced complex care, shaped around you.
Your Sydney SIL provider
Finding the right Supported Independent Living provider means finding support that fits your needs, preferences and goals. Concept Care provides personalised SIL support in Sydney, with experience supporting people with complex and high-intensity disability needs. We work with you and, with your consent, your family, Support Coordinator and relevant professionals to understand your daily routines and plan suitable support. Our focus is helping you feel comfortable, make choices and build independence at home. We assess each enquiry carefully, considering your support requirements, available funding, household compatibility and whether our team can safely deliver the care you need in everyday life.
What is Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living, or SIL, is NDIS-funded help or supervision with everyday activities at home. It supports people with higher support needs to live as independently as possible while developing daily living skills. SIL is generally suited to people who need substantial assistance during the day and support or supervision overnight. Depending on assessed needs and funding, workers may provide shared or individual support. SIL funds your assistance, not the property itself. Rent, groceries, utilities and ordinary personal expenses remain separate. SIL differs from Specialist Disability Accommodation, which funds eligible specialist housing rather than the daily support delivered within it.
Who can access SIL support in Sydney?
SIL may be suitable if you need substantial daily assistance and support or supervision across a 24-hour period, including overnight. You might be preparing to leave the family home, exploring shared living or seeking arrangements better suited to your changing needs.
Eligibility depends on your individual circumstances and the NDIA’s assessment of appropriate supports. SIL is one of several home and living options; occasional assistance may be better provided through another arrangement. Your NDIS contact, Support Coordinator and allied health professionals can help explore your options. Concept Care assesses service suitability but cannot guarantee funding approval or a particular placement.
How do I fund SIL through my NDIS plan?
You need appropriate NDIS funding before SIL services can be delivered and claimed. Your NDIS contact, Support Coordinator and relevant professionals can help gather information about your daily assistance, overnight supervision and disability-related support needs. The NDIA considers this evidence when deciding which supports to fund. Once funding is confirmed, Concept Care discusses the services we can provide within your plan and documents the agreed arrangements. Your service agreement explains your supports and charges. Any housing or tenancy agreement is separate. We explain these arrangements clearly so you understand what your funding covers and which living expenses you pay yourself.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between SIL and SDA?
SIL funds assistance or supervision with daily activities. Specialist Disability Accommodation, or SDA, is specially designed housing for eligible people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
Some participants receive both. You do not need SDA funding for every SIL arrangement, and a home offering SIL support is not automatically an SDA property.
What costs will I need to pay myself?
SIL funding does not cover rent, groceries, utilities or ordinary personal expenses. We explain the costs associated with a proposed home before you agree to move in.
Can I choose who I live with?
Your preferences matter. We discuss who you would like to live with and consider compatibility, support needs and available options. We cannot guarantee a particular housemate or placement.
Can I choose or change my SIL provider?
You have choice over who provides your support. If you want to change providers, your Support Coordinator or support network can help you understand the agreements, notice requirements and transition arrangements involved. Housing and support arrangements should be considered separately.
Can I visit a home before deciding?
Yes, where a suitable vacancy is available, we can arrange a visit. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions, explore the environment and consider whether it feels right for you.
Can Concept Care support complex needs?
We assess each enquiry individually. We consider your care requirements, clinical and behaviour support guidance, staff competency, funding and the proposed home before confirming whether we can safely meet your needs.
What if my support needs change?
We review the arrangements with you and, with your consent, the relevant people in your support network. Changes may require updated care plans, worker training or a discussion with the NDIA about funding.
Can family and friends visit?
Your home should support your relationships and social life. Visiting arrangements should respect your choices alongside the privacy, safety and preferences of other people living in the home.
How long does it take to move in?
There is no single timeframe. It depends on funding, vacancy availability, compatibility, accessibility requirements and preparation of your support team. We will discuss a realistic transition plan with you.
Can I keep my existing support workers?
Tell us what continuity is important to you. We can discuss what may be possible, although keeping particular workers depends on employment arrangements, availability, competency and the agreed service model.
